Scoring and Awards

Concept

Players will be competing in two areas.  The first is loosely called “Overall” and reflects what would normally be seen for a tournament score breakdown.  This includes mostly battle points, but appearance and sportsmanship factor in.  The second area is in army appearance.  Awards will be given out from top contenders in each area.  Additionally we will be recognizing “The Complete Hobbyist”.  Our concept was to be able to equally recognize all aspects of the hobby, without watering down the battle competition with soft scores.

Awards

  • Top Players in Overall
    • The top spots from the “Overall” will be recognized for their achievements in battle, with a small amount of soft scores mixed in.
  • Top Players in Appearance
    • The armies will be given a rigorous appearance evaluation with the highest scoring armies being recognized for their achievements.
  • Top Players in Favorite Opponent
    • Players who “Wow” their opponents with being awesome to play against will be recognized.
  • The Complete Hobbyist
    • This award will go to the player who achieves the highest average across Battle Points, Favorite Opponent Votes and Appearance with a completely equal weighting from each category.

Overall – Appearance

The Appearance score used towards Overall will be a simple tiered system.

  • 0 points for a painted army (it’s just the minimum requirement after all).
  • 10 points for an “average” army.  Most players should score here.
  • 15 points for a top end army.

Overall – Preferred Opponent

Players will be asked after round 4 to vote for their favorite 2 opponents.
If you receive X number of first place votes:
1 vote   – 2   points
2 votes – 4   points
3 votes – 7   points
4 votes – 10 points

2nd place votes will be worth 1 point each.

We want everyone to have a great time.  We’ll do out part, you do yours.  🙂

Penalties

There will be a penalty of 5 points towards overall for late army list submissions and/or submitting an illegal list that requires re-submission (past the deadline).

Judges will be issuing penalties for bad conduct (really, it shouldn’t come to this).
1st offense – Warning
2nd offense – 5 point penalty to overall score
3rd offense – Ejected from event

The score sheets will each have a Pass/Fail for “Player Conduct”.  If you receive a Fail (meaning the game was poor, you would never want to repeat that experience) a judge will come find you to determine why the game was so bad.  This may result in a Warning, with repeated offenses carrying a more serious penalty (see below).
Pass = Anywhere from “just ok” to “AWESOME!”
Fail = A game you would not voluntarily play again given the choice.

Updated 05/12/2013 – Clarify favorite opponent scoring, add penalties.
